As a representational oil painter and ceramicist, I explore the journey of motherhood through my large figurative works. With each stroke of the brush, I strive to capture the essence of this meaningful experience, celebrating the beauty, strength and complexity that surrounds maternity. I have delved into the profound themes and links between birth givers and nature, particularly focusing on the majestic existence of trees. The intertwining themes of motherhood and trees serve as a visual metaphor. I aim to reconcile the difference between conventional portrayals of mothers and cultivate a more genuine and contemporary representation, weaving a narrative that not only reflects the physicality of the pain and beauty of carrying a child but also examines the emotional depths it encompasses. Inspired by the human form, I employ classical oil painting techniques to meticulously recreate each figure, paying close attention to the interplay of light and shadow, the subtle nuances of facial expressions, and intricate details of human anatomy. I highlight and honor countless sacrifices, and unconditional love. Drawing from personal experience and observation I aspire to show a more authentic and expansive view of motherhood while inviting reflection, empathy and an exploration of the universal forces that bind us all.
